The Olympics are in full swing and I’m loving it! Being an Olympic nut, I’ve watched a lot of the swimming, volleyball and gymnastics events. The Phelps and Lochte dual in the 200 IM lived up to the hype; I’m now ready for the track and field events, in particular to see if Bolt is going to be able to smash his old 100m record. Go USA and on to the quick bites!
- If you’re looking for a burger that can go for the gold, check out the “Big Filthy” at Big Bob’s Burgers. A third pound of ground chuck, refried beans, a ton of homemade chili, cheese and jalapeños, it is a near impossibility to eat this burger without a fork and knife. Big Bob’s is known to get in some good live music, so check them out at night as well. (447 West Hildebrand Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212)
- Pizza Classics on Broadway, just south of Mahncke Park, will hit the spot if you are looking for dinner or a late night snack. The pizzeria is truly a classic, having old school arcade games in the front (Miss Pacman anyone?) that you can play while you wait for your pie to come out. While they do charge you a dollar for Parmesan cheese, rest assured that this is actually the grated kind instead of just the powder found at the chains. (2110 Broadway Street, San Antonio, TX 78215)
- Whenever I am downtown and need a fix for my sweet tooth, I stop by Sip Coffee where they have some incredible desserts from local bakeries. This past time I was able to try this almond vanilla cake that was out of the world – the cake was dense and the icing was incredibly sweet. Their cappuccino is pretty dang good too. (160 East Houston Street, San Antonio, TX 78205)
- In case you missed my review yesterday, if you are a fried chicken lover, you need to go check out Chatman’s Chicken. The chicken is delicious and the mac ‘n cheese is worth the drive.
