When I need to know what the hottest new bars and restaurants are, I turn to the Instagram feed of Christina Liserio. A blogger over at www.BornAndGraisedSA.com, Christina is all about food, drink and fun in San Antonio. She’s always friendly and cheerful—and super passionate about the SA food scene—and her 2017 Margarita Fiesta Medal reflects that spirit.
We spent a lot of time brainstorming ideas for her medal and Miss Margarita came out of one of those sessions—originally intended to be a part of “family” food, we decided to split out each character to have a series of Puro San Antonio eats over the next couple of years!
While she’s constantly working on her “research” Christina says that her top three margaritas are the Cucumber Margarita at The Frutería (“it’s delish!”), Chispa at Sol Luna (“because it’s made with Everclear—oy!”) and any margarita at Mi Tierra (“the energy and people watching at Market Square is so fun!”). You’ll be able to find the Margarita Fiesta Medal over in the SA Flavor online store, but we are currently only taking pre-orders that will be handed out at our January 31st party at Hills and Dales for all eight medals we helped create! Individual medal sales will begin at the party.
Christina chose a portion of the proceeds from the medal to be donated to The Chow Train, a food truck that feeds gourmet meals to the homeless population in San Antonio.

“I became aware of Joan Cheever and the Chow Train when news broke a couple of years ago that she was given a citation from SAPD for serving food to homeless people in Maverick park from a truck rather than her food trailer,” Christina says.
Luckily, the citation was dropped and she has been able to continue with her good work.
“During the last PechaKucha, Joan spoke about her mission and what drives her to do what she does, and I was just so impressed and moved by her message,” Christina remembers. “She reminds everyone to remember the invisible people of our city and that no matter what everyone has at least one free thing to give them: a smile.”
Christina says that during a time of year when a lot of us are running to Fiesta parties, parades, and other events, it feels like one of the best times to remember just that.
