Sometimes you choose the ice cream, other times it chooses you. This was the case with finding Chozen; I picked this flavor because Central Market had an incredible sale and thought that it might be an interesting choice to blog about. Chozen is a 100% kosher ice cream that incorporates traditional Jewish treats, in this case chocolate and caramel covered Matzoh. This serendipitous choice turned out to be awesome.
First, this was one of the richest ice creams that I had tried this summer. Looking at the label I saw that it was made of all natural ingredients: Whole Milk, Cream, Matzoh Brittle (Matzoh, Dark Chocolate, Butter, Sugar, Vanilla Extract, Salt), Sugar, Egg Yolks, Vanilla Extract and Salt. You can’t get any more authentic than that. The ice cream was sweet and had a nice texture to it – the bits of Matzoh gave a nice chocolate flavor when you came across one. While I would like to have seen a little more of the Matzoh mixed in, overall I was highly impressed with this ice cream. It certainly has a lot of chutzpah!
