Love Instagram and San Antonio? Come to a SA Instameet!

If you love the social photo sharing app Instagram as much as I do, you need to come out to this weekend’s Instameet! You might be wondering, “What in the heck is an Instameet?” It’s an opportunity for fans of Instagram to meet up and take pictures that tie together with a particular theme or idea. To help show off San Antonio, I started organizing a bi-monthly Instameet for different San Antonio neighborhoods.

Our first Instameet was in July and focused on downtown. Six Instagrammers participated in the meet up, and it was interesting to see downtown from the perspectives of these different folks. Of course, there were pictures of the iconic Alamo and River Walk, but there were also pictures of Mom and Pop shops and items in an antique store. In little over an hour, close to 70 images were taken of downtown by this group (some of which you can see in the slideshow below).

This Saturday, September 15th, will be the second San Antonio Neighborhood Instameet that focuses on the King William neighborhood. Instagrammers are going to go to The Friendly Spot at 11:00AM to grab a brew, get to meet one another and head out to take photos of the King William neighborhood. The Friendly Spot was chosen as the meeting point because back before everyone had electric refrigerators, folks would meet up at the ice house to get a block of ice and maybe a beer or two. The good folks there have carried on this tradition of serving the community, and it is a great place to meet, drink and be friendly.

The good folks at The Friendly Spot are not only serving as the meetup spot for the Instameet, but also are giving away a gift card to the winner!

There will be prizes for the photo that the Instameet participants vote as the best in show as well as the photo that receives the most “likes” on Instagram at the time of voting. There will be a couple of amazing prizes, including a gift card from The Friendly Spot as well as Prinstagramproviding a minibook that holds 100 of your Instagram photos as well as a sticker book of 252 mini stickers of your Instagram prints.

The folks at Prinstagram have donated a Minibook and a Stickerbook to the winning photos of this Instameet – check out their site for cool things you can do with your photos!

Hopefully you can make it out this weekend to the second San Antonio Neighborhood Instameet – it promises to be filled with a lot of fun, photos, prizes and brews!
