Cue the timpani and trumpets, get Bob Costas a new coat and tie, it is time for the Olympics! Ever since I was little I have been an Olympic nut and am very excited for the kickoff of the 2012 games in London. There are quite a few athletes that call San Antonio home competing in these Olympic games, both professionals and homegrown sports stars. Be sure to cheer them on! Now for the quick bites:
- As you know, I love the chilaquiles at Thousand Oaks Cafe, but this past week I decided to switch it up. I was jonesing for some pancakes and eggs, so I ordered the huevos rancheros along with a single flapjack. Now I rarely order pancakes at Mexican restaurants because they can be hit or miss (especially when I love chilaquiles and breakfast tacos so much), but Thousand Oaks exceeded all expectations. The pancake was thick, moist and had those crispy edges, a trifecta that is hard to accomplish.
- The Eat St. filming of the Rickshaw Stop food truck out at Boardwalk on Bulverde this past Sunday was a lot of fun. Plenty of people came out to support Sameer and Meagan in spite of the Texas heat. In order to film inside the truck, the owners had to kill the generators because they were too loud for the microphones. This caused the temperature to rise to oppressive levels in the truck, but it didn’t stop the Rickshaw from serving up some mean grub. We’ll keep you posted when the shows air!
- Be sure to get you tickets for the Taste of the River Walk to sample fare from a variety of downtown restaurants on September 11, 12 and 13. You are given a wristband that gives you access to eat food at a different group of restaurants each night. You might want to get your tickets now as this event is sure to sell out!
- Love espresso but sick of paying Starbucks prices? Here’s a solution for you: buy a Fiat. The Italian car company is manufacturing “the first standard-production car in the world to offer a true espresso coffee machine.” Seriously.
