After a whirlwind 5 months of the holidays, getting engaged, wedding planning, buying a house, moving and getting hitched, I’m back to where I can finally work on the blog! I’m looking forward to writing about our venue and caterer, both of which was awesome, here in the next few weeks. I’ve since moved inside the loop, just north of downtown in a neighborhood called Mahncke Park, so in the future look for some more detailed reviews of some of the restaurants along the Broadway corridor. At any rate, after several months, on to the quick bites!

• Are you really hungry and looking for something to fill you up? Look no further than King’s Palace (Broadway and Natalen). Their General Tso’s Chicken is literally an entire to go box chocked full of food. If you like it with some heat, be sure to ask for extra spicy (even then it is not that hot). The plate under “Gourmet Specials” can feed a small army, but you will want to get some extra rice.

• The Kolache Stop (Huebner and Vance Jackson) specializes in making fresh kolaches every day. I got to visit with the owner, and he told me that while the fruit kolaches are what a person from the old country would consider a “real kolache,” the shop does make the meat kind that are more indigenous to Texas. You can get a couple of kolaches and a cup of coffee for right around $4.

• The San Antonio River Foundation is hosting their annual Rivertini party this Tuesday, June 19^th from 5:30 to 7:30PM at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Tickets are $50 and you will be able to sample creative cocktails from some of the premier bars and restaurants in town. The reigning champs from the Cork Bar (of the Hotel Contessa) will be there competing against 17 other establishments. I am particularly interested in seeing what The Esquire staff will come up with.

• Speaking of the River Foundation, I was happy to partner with them with SnappTours (a company I cofounded) to create a smartphone guided tour of the Museum and Mission Reach. You can access the tour on your Android or iPhone by scanning a QR code outside of an art installation while you are on the river, or by downloading the SnappTours iPhone App and going to the San Antonio River Walk Art Tour. Bonus: Agent K himself, actor Tommy Lee Jones, narrates the tour.
