I missed last weeks Quick Bites because I was on vacation going to see the Texas Rangers play ball, so while I am a little late, I would like to say that my heart goes out to all those people in Bastrop who have been affected by this devastating fire. This has been such a disaster to one of the more unique regions of Texas and I hope that everyone up there is doing all right. That being said, please be careful with any open flame as it is incredibly dry, dry, dry outside.
- Traveling to the Ballpark in Arlington, I got to stop at one of my favorite restaurants in the world, The Blue Bonnet Cafe. If you are up near Marble Falls, be sure to get some home cookin’ so good that it will make you want to slap your momma, but be sure to leave room for pie. This time I ordered the fudge pie which was tasted like the best brownie batter ever. Here’s a tip: they heat up the pie so don’t make my mistake or topping it with whipped cream, instead opt for ice cream.
- While I was at the Ballpark in Arlington I discovered the garlic fries which became my new favorite stadium food. Crispy fries with just the right amount of garlic and topped with grated Parmesan cheese make them the new go to option. So good.
- Fans of bacon should consider checking out Chef Jason Dady’s four course meal entitled “For the Love of Bacon” happening this week. This would also be a good time to check out the landmark San Antonio restaurant as Chef has recently announced that he will be closing the doors by the end of the year. The bacon dinner is $30, make reservations at 210-349-8466.
- Local blogger Oh My Puddin’ believes that there are some Dishes You Should Know How to Cook from Memory. While it was fun to read the article to see which dishes she selected, I really enjoyed why she thought you should learn to cook them. Unfortunately for me, I only know how to cook one – fried eggs (and I don’t even do that well). Guess I have some work to do!
